Stink Bugs in the United States are true pests. As any Maryland, DC or Virginia resident knows, the stink bug is aptly named because of the pungent stench it gives off when it gets threatened. Most of us come into contact with stink bugs during the winter and summer.
At the first sign of cooler weather, they seek warmer environments such as your home because they will not survive the winter without being inside. Once inside, they will wander about looking for food and water. They will also munch on indoor plants, sometimes fatally damaging them. During the summer and warmer months, stink bugs will seek refuge outside and feast on gardens. They are particularly fond of fruits such as apples, pears and raspberries and vegetables such as soybeans. It uses a proboscis to penetrate the skin of its meal, ultimately causing the fruit or vegetable to rot.
